WHAT DISTINGUISHES US
Years ago in New York, while running his private medical practice, our chief surgeon recalls how an incidental finding forever changed his career and set into motion the scientific investigation and clinical research that has resulted in the development of the innovative treatments we offer today at Vascular General.
At the time, many of Dr. Spartalis’s patients suffered from a combination of Osteoarthritis and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). These patients suffered from severe chronic pain and were not responding to traditional pain management medication.
Exemplary of the good doctor’s personal commitment to continuing medical education and staying up-to-date with the cutting edge of advancements in medicine and technology, Dr. Spartalis began to incorporate Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Simulation (TENS) therapy with the treatment of his patients suffering from chronic pain. TENS devices had then just recently come onto the market as a non-invasive method to reduce pain.
The TENS therapy had a positive effect on the management of pain in these patients. Moreover, upon closer examination of these patients, Dr. Spartalis, with the help of state-of-the-art diagnostic Doppler Ultrasound equipment, observed dramatic improvements to the venous circulation, which in these patients had previously been compromised due to DVT.
In the months and years that were to follow this initial incidental finding, an inspired Dr. Spartalis devoted himself to studying the electromagnetic phenomena of the intravascular environment, unraveling the mechanics of low dose electrotherapy, and ultimately perfecting innovative treatments for improving circulation.
